Chromatic Scale
The chromatic scale contains the twelve notes in the western music system. There are no other notes.
The word chromatic comes from chroma or color. In other words, the chromatic scale contains all the colours in our musical world. Every other scale is constructed by choosing certain notes from the chromatic scale.
The chromatic scale is the only scale that uses all twelve notes.
The twelve notes of the chromatic scale are:
D, D#/Eb, E, F, F#/Gb, G, G#/Ab, A, A#/Bb, B, C, C#/Db
All our other scales, for example, the major scale, the pentatonic scale, the blues scale, natural minor scale, etc are derived from selecting a different subset of notes from the twelve notes of the chromatic scale.
